KeymasterHello srudiger!
This is a great question, and regrettably, I don’t have a helpful answer. 🙁 You’re right: the maximum temperature of hot spring pools and rivers in Costa Rica sticks to 40 degrees Celsius. (I just reviewed our records and they show that the maximum temps hover around 38-41 degrees Celsius.) The majority of Costa Rica’s hot springs are located in the La Fortuna region, though off-the-beaten-path options exist in the Rincon de la Vieja, Orosi, and Chirripo areas. Unfortunately, I believe these properties, too, max out around 40 degrees Celsius (37-40 degrees Celsius), so I’m not familiar with a public hot springs option where you’ll be able to access temps upwards of 43-46 degrees Celsius. 🙁
If you happen to come across one during your travels, please let us know so we can check it out! 🙂

ParticipantI was just chatting with Rio Perdido. Their pools range from 33 to 45 depending on the weather (typically hotter in the dry season). They also have a complete vegan menu option. Finally far from the crowds and in a unique ecosystem. Checks all of our boxes.
Thanks for your reply!

Keymastersrudiger,
Rio Perdido! You’re absolutely right! I include mention of Rio Perdido in my guidebook so I’m surprised it slipped my mind when I wrote to you last. I apologize for the oversight. I’m so glad you stumbled upon the property. It sounds like you feel that it would be a good fit, which is wonderful!
Thanks so much for reporting back about this.
Pura vida! 🙂
