KeymasterHi leebehrens!
Two quick questions for you, in response to your question:
- Will you be bringing a personal Wi-Fi-enabled device, such as a smartphone, with you to Costa Rica?
- Which destinations in Costa Rica do you intend to visit?
If you bring a personal Wi-Fi-enabled device with you to Costa Rica, you shouldn’t need to rent an additional device for your trip. If your personal device is unlocked (assuming it’s a cell phone), you can purchase a SIM card in Costa Rica that you can pop into your phone to tap into the local internet service. This will allow you to access Wi-Fi in most parts of Costa Rica, but in some parts, the Wi-Fi can be dicey. (I’d guess that the internet service provided by the Wi-Fi device that your travel agent mentioned would also provide dicey service in the same areas.) Regardless of whether you rent a device like the one your travel agent mentioned or you stick to using a personal cell phone with the help of a local SIM card (as most visitors do), I second your thought about getting Wi-Fi access somehow, to ensure you do have access to maps and other resources throughout your trip. 🙂
