Thanks so much for your interest in DIY Costa Rica!
Thank you also for your patience over the past day or so. 🙂 I’ve been trying to figure out where the glitch is with our other site.
To confirm, unfortunately the free Costa Rica discounts that we normally offer through our sister site (https://puravidaeh.ca) are unavailable at the current time due to COVID. Although we (Pura Vida! eh? Inc.) are still operating, a lot of Costa Rican companies are not; they’re either still closed, are only just beginning to reopen, or are operating only a fraction of their tours/activities/excursions because of the pandemic. Back in March of 2020, when COVID first hit the region, Costa Rica acted aggressively and closed its borders to international travelers. It also put many restrictions in place that (temporarily) closed many businesses, including tourism businesses. The borders only reopened to all tourists last fall, but some tourism companies have decided to stay closed or limit their tour offerings because there aren’t enough tourists in the country to financially support reopening. This is because far fewer people are traveling right now due to many countries’ international travel bans. 🙁
The good news is, we are starting to see more companies open up and offer more tours. We’re currently in the process of determining which tours (among those we offer discounts for) are up and running, so we can start releasing those discounts to the public one again. The bad news is, we don’t yet know which tours will be running and when, which means I don’t know if we’ll be able to release discounts for them before your travel dates.
I had put a notice up on our sister site explaining that the checkout button was temporarily disabled due to COVID. After I received your comment about not being able book, I realized that the notice wasn’t displaying properly anymore. I apologize for this glitch and the resulting confusion. I haven’t yet figured out why the notice isn’t appearing on our other site but in the meantime, I’ve put a notice on every product page that explains that the discount is temporarily unavailable due to COVID. This should help avoid confusion for other visitors, but I know this doesn’t help you any. 🙁 If you want, feel free to reply back to this message and let me know which exact tours you were looking to obtain discounts for. I can’t provide a date when discounts for those items will become available because I don’t have that information yet, but I’ll keep the tours on my radar and if discounts can be released sooner rather than later for any of them I’ll let you know asap.
