Hi again, my boys would love to see both a large scale Dole plantation (or similar) and a pineapple farm. Does anyone recommend a plantation they’ve been too?

    Hey jaymeyer83!

I just noticed that our earlier response to you was marked as “private” by mistake, so I don’t think you saw it before. At any rate, in case any other member sees this and has the same question, I’ll answer it below!

Quick question: will you be visiting the Caribbean side of the country at all? Most of the large-scale banana plantations are situated in that region. Truthfully, most don’t allow guided tours of their property–the “banana plantation tours” you’ll see advertised online are usually roadside tours, on which a tour company will drive to the general area where the plantation is located and talk about the history of bananas in Costa Rica from the vehicle. Most people don’t get to go inside the packing houses, etc.

For a pineapple tour, a good one is the Organic Paradise Tour (https://www.organicparadisetour.com/). It isn’t provided by a large-scale company like Dole; it’s more of a family-run business but is still large at 33 hectares. It is located in the Sarapiqui area (east of La Fortuna and north of San Jose).
