KeymasterHey DIYMartene2022!
This is a really great question. I have a quick question of my own: Do you intend to take day trips away from the resort (i.e., to participate in tours/activities off-site, or to visit beaches that aren’t within walking distance of the resort’s grounds) or do you plan to stay at the resort the entire time? The three accommodations you list are in very different areas of Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coast, which means each has access to different beaches, and is either closer to or further away from off-site tours and activities.
For now, I can tell you that Planet Hollywood is one of the country’s newest resorts, and it’s located at the entrance to the Papagayo Peninsula, a traditionally exclusive area. Down the coast, just south of Playas del Coco is the RIU Palace. Even further down the coast, in the community of Playa Flamingo, is the Margaritaville. With respect to beaches, the Margaritaville is across the street from Playa Flamingo, an incredibly beautiful beach and one of my favorites in the area. The beautiful beach is also very busy, so depending on when you plan to visit, you may share the beach with several other visitors. From Planet Hollywood, you can access a variety of beaches that curve around the Papagayo peninsula; most are accessible via a shuttle service that circles the peninsula, and some beaches are down long, steep sets of staircases. My least favorite beach of the bunch is Playa Matapalo, which fronts the two side-by-side RIU resorts, the RIU Palace, which you’re considering, and the RIU Guanacaste.
